This is a personal journal documenting my studies in art - mainly just a place to keep notes and to organize my thoughts better than I could in a handwritten journal (you can't do a search in a paper journal, or post live links). My ultimate goal is oil painting, but I want to start with developing my grasp of the basics in drawing.
Thanks to both of you! This one did come out really well didn't it? That's largely because of the picture I was working from - look up 'pictorialist portrait' if you don't already know about these guys and their amazing work. They were trying to make photos that could compete with paintings. Plus I applied some of the things I was learning from the landscape studies - in particular the overall texture layer that seems to give a sense of cohesion and subtle complexity.
Mike, this one looks amazing!! I like the shades of color, eyes, candles... Looking very very good.
